Sex Offender Registry Unit
Compliance, follow-up, and proactive investigations across DeSoto County.
Our Mission
The Sex Offender Registry Unit focuses on managing the sex offender registry and all sex offenders within the jurisdiction. The unit conducts thorough investigations and consistent follow-up on registry violations, working under Mississippi law that places this responsibility specifically with Sheriff's Offices.
Key Responsibilities

- Conduct regular address checks to verify compliance of offenders residing in DeSoto County

Day in the Life
A typical day mixes office work — registry intake, paperwork, database maintenance, and tip review — with field work like address verifications, compliance checks, and joint operations with the U.S. Marshals. Investigators are often the first to notice a discrepancy that turns a compliance issue into a felony investigation.
Successful work in this unit requires meticulous documentation, patience, and a steady focus on detail over the long arc of an investigation.
Training Opportunities
- Mississippi Sex Offender Registry Symposium
- High-Risk Offender Investigations
- Undercover operations
- Specialized training across the country on tools, equipment, and techniques for investigating sex offenders
